India’s new Partition Museum

A museum dedicated to the most traumatic and violent period in India’s history – the partition with Pakistan in August 1947 – is set to be established at Amritsar’s historic Town Hall.

The Arts and Cultural Heritage Trust, which unveiled the plans last year, has now confirmed that the Punjab Government has given permission for the museum’s home to be in Amritsar’s Town Hall. “We are grateful it has recognised the importance of the Partition in the history of India and the world,” said Kishwar Desai, chairperson of the trust.
